Raising community participation and awareness in astronomy
Deep Sky Imaging Group
The Deep Sky Imaging Group is a special interest group with astrophotography as the centre of its activities. The group uses digital SLR carmeras and/or dedicated CCDs. Members of the group do not need any imaging or optical equipment as anyone is welcome to 'come, see and learn'. Members not only learn about imaging, but also about the different types of telescopes and how to use them, in a friendly and relaxed environment.
In addition to imaging in our private time, the group
shares, learns and advances their skills at monthly meetings held
at The
Heights Observatory.
The group also has an ongoing relationship with The STARs
- a group of around 24 students from The Heights School who pursue
their astronomy interests at their weekly meetings.
This year, the group will run a structured but casual 'course' that takes members through from 'beginner' to whatever level you wish. To get a copy of this year's activities, simply come to one of the group's meetings and keep an eye out for our monthly column in The Bulletin or click on the following links.
