Monthly Meetings & Public Lectures

The Society currently meets in The Braggs Lecture Theatre at the University of Adelaide, a large modern meeting venue which also facilitates wheelchair access and live streaming of our meetings. The meetings are free and open to the public. Visitors are most welcome to attend.

COVID-19 Update (9 May 2021):

  • The Society re-commenced in-person monthly meetings in February 2021 with approved COVID Safe Plans in place.
  • All attendees are required to scan in using the COVID Safe Check-In QR code or provide their details on paper records on entry.
  • Theatre seat bookings are no longer required for our monthly meetings. Some events may still require tickets for entry.
  • Tea, coffee and supper is now available after General Meetings.

General Meetings

General Meetings start at 8:00 pm on the first Wednesday of each month (except January) and are held in The Braggs Lecture Theatre, University of Adelaide (North Terrace Campus). Please enter The Braggs LT from the western doors (facing the Barr Smith Lawns).

General Meetings feature a main presentation by either a professional astronomer or members of the ASSA. Presentation topics vary to include a broad mix of content suitable for everyone including the general public.

Please note that for security reasons, the entrance to The Braggs Lecture Theatre may be locked from 8pm. So please ensure you arrive well before the meeting commences.

Astronomy Education Sessions

Astronomy Education sessions are short, focused presentations aimed at the beginner and intermediate level. The sessions cover a different topic each month.

Astronomy Education sessions start at 7:00 pm before General Meetings, and are also held at the same venue.
