Astrophotography Workshop

Every year the ASSA Astro-imaging Group hold an Astrophotography Workshop at the Bendleby Ranges , 50km North of Orroroo in the Southern Flinders Ranges.

The 2018 workshop will be held on the weekend of 16th-19th of March.

The accommodation comprises of 6 double air conditioned rooms in the Shearers Quarters, 2 four person rooms in the Bunkhouse, 4 powered camp sites and 2 unpowered camp sites. Facilities include a large kitchen with 2 fridges, large dining area, gas BBQ, toilet & shower block and a disabled shower & toilet which is also reserved for use by the women.

Members need to provide their own food, toiletries, bed linen/pillow etc. The nearest shop is a 2 hour round trip to Orroroo, so make a check list.

Accommodation is also available for Thursday 15th if you would like to arrive a day earlier.

This year's workshop presentations will be:

  • Jarrod Koh - Basic Astrophotography Processing in Photoshop.
  • Paul Montague - Migrating from Colour CCD to LRGB CMOS Imaging.
  • Tom Valencic - Introduction io the PixInsight Software

Members are encouraged to take advantage of the dark sky location and bring their Astrophotography equipment. The presentations are scheduled for the afternoons so you can spend all night imaging. If you are new to Astrophotography members will be available to advise and assist you with your equipment.


  • Shearer's Quarters - $42 per adult per night, Children under 15 $21, Children under 5 $0
  • Bunkhouse  - $30 per person per night, Children under 15 $15, Children under 5 $0
  • Powered Camping - $27.50 per adult per night, Children under 15 $5, Children under 5 $0
  • Unpowered Camping - $22 per adult per night, Children under 15 $5, Children under 5 $0
