General Meetings
General Meetings are held at 8 p.m. on the first Wednesday of
each month (except January) in the Kerr Grant Theatre, Physics Building,
University of Adelaide (North Terrace Campus). General meetings usually
feature a guest speaker and often include the presentation of astronomical
photographs and/or observation reports. There's usually something of
interest for everyone. Our general meetings are open to the public and
visitors are most welcome to attend.
Next Meeting: Astronomy on the Top Side - 2 July, 8:00pmPresented by Martin Whipp
Martin will take a lighthearted look at how amateur astronomy
is practiced in the UK with a brief historical background to the
city of York from an astronomical point of view and will conclude
with a couple of short videos.
Originally from York in Northern England, Martin has been living
in Adelaide since May 2007. Upon arrival, he immediately
joined ASSA. He has been interested in astronomy from the age
of 4, and became a member of the York AS at the age of 14. During
his 17 years there, he was Chairman, Vice Chairman, and Secretary,
and frequently presented lectures to the YAS as well as other
local societies and groups in the region. Martin was made a Fellow
of the Royal Astronomical Society in December 2001.
Tea and coffee is available after the main General Meeting as well as a light
supper.

The Society also holds a Beginners Group Meeting starting at 7 p.m. on
the same night as the General Meeting. These sessions are designed to assist
