These programs run under DOS except where noted.
  • VSSOBS
The official VSS RASNZ data entry and database manager. Supports UT, local (including fractional timezones) and GMAT time entry. Recognizes the entire "official" VSS RASNZ star list, plus allows entry of user-defined targets. Numeric or descriptive magnitudes may be entered.

VSSOBS produces dBase-III compatible files. It also sorts and merges files, and extracts single star data to printer or disk. For more info email its author at ranaldm@es.co.nz. Currently at Version 3.6 at time of writing.

  • KSOLO and KSOLOREP
The official AAVSO data entry and reporting programs. Available from the AAVSO. Currently at Version 4.1 at time of writing.

  • VSSPlot
The graphical add-on to VSSOBS. VSSPlot can also read AAVSO RAWfiles and VSOLJ textfiles. VSSPlot generates lightcurves, does period analyses, and contains numerous utilities of use to variable star observers.

For more info, and the latest version, visit the VSSPlot home page at http://www.dove.net.au/~fraserf/vssplot.htm.

  • Karl Dubost's Page
Karl has compiled a large collection of variable star-related software and links, to suit many different computer platforms. Take a look at his collection at http://www.normandieweb.org/karl/astro/vr.html.

  • PictureViewer
A free DOS program which can view and convert between several dozen image formats. Ideal for viewing all those images and charts of variables that you got off the Net. Visit the PictView homepage for more info.
