Member Viewing Nights

Each month, the Society runs viewing nights and other activities for the benefit of its members. Dark sky locations are conveniently located North, South and East of Adelaide. All sites are open at least once a month, and members are welcome to bring their own telescopes.

Stockport has a BBQ and coffee/tea facilities, which are usually fired up before sunset on scheduled members' nights. This provides members with an opportunity to socialise and share stories.

IMPORTANT: COVID-19 Safety Requirements for all Member Viewing Nights:

  • If you have had any cold/flu like symptoms in the prior 2 weeks, you will not be allowed to enter.
  • Where possible, you must log in using the SAGov QR code. Alternatively, sign-in using a register.
  • You must follow the instructions posted at the site regarding social distancing and hand washing.
  • Sign the attendance register when you arrive.
  • You must NOT share your telescope, or any other accessories with other members in attendance.
  • BBQ facilities will NOT be available.
  • Only disposable cups/spoons for tea/coffee.

Stockport Observatory is the Society's primary observing facility and is located north of Adelaide.

Tooperang Observing Site offers a dark sky site south of Adelaide.

Meldanda Observing Site is located in the River Murray Dark Sky Reserve east of Adelaide.

In addition to general viewing nights for members, the Society also runs other activities for members including workshops and regular meetings for its Special Interest Groups.
